Bo dies the day before the biggest game ever in the biggest rivalry in college football, which was created by he and Woody. Former University of Michigan football coach Bo Schembechler has died, according to reports from WDIV Local 4 and WXYZ-TV (Channel 7). He was was transported to Providence Hospital after a medical emergency Friday morning, a Southfield Police Department official has said. Detective John Harris said Southfield officers escorted an ambulance carrying Schembechler to Providence Hospital at about 9:30 a.m. Medical personnel were called to WXYZ-TV in Southfield after Schembechler apparently suffered a medical problem. Around noon, friends and family continued to arrive at Providence Hospital, including former U-M coach Gary Moeller and U-M football color commentator and former player Jim Brandstatter. Security guards led them inside. Last month, the 77-year-old Schembechler had a pacemaker and defibrillator installed after he had dizziness and other symptoms while taping his weekly television show. The seven-time Big Ten coach of the year compiled a 194-48-5 record at Michigan from 1969-89. Schembechler’s record in 26 years of coaching was 234-64-8. |

Hesh, what a great story! That is awesome that you knew him.... I read on a blog that it would only be fair if Michigan spots OSU 14 tomorrow, as the Boys will have some serious motivation.. |

First, let me say that Bo is loved here as well. He and Woody were an institution. This is a very very sad thing. It was obvious to all he was a really top shelf guy. It is almost surreal.... very very sad. But..... that said.... if I were him and I had the option to pick "my day" it would be the eve of the OSU / MI game.... It is kind of like John Adams and Thomas Jefferson both dying 50 years to the day after the Declaration of Independance was signed. This is the stuff sports legends are made of. ... man I swear just when you think the suspense can't get any higher... it does. And... a final thought.... Don't lose your heads. We don't need the 14 points. ;-) |

Thats very sad to hear.I watched many OSU-Michigan games with Bo and Woody Hayes on the sidelines. Some are saying this will give Michigan the edge and some say once the game gets underway it wont matter. I can't wait to see.Sorry to all the Michiganders for the loss of a football legend and a great guy. |
